Lighter in weight, more durable and more supple than conventional elastic threads, spandex has two to three times their restraining power. It is extruded in a multiplicity of fine filaments, which immediately form a monofilament that can be repeatedly stretched over 500% without breaking and instantly recover its original length.

There are a number of spandex yarns on the North American market. Through its network of suppliers, Bermatex offers its clients the following fibers: Lycra® from Invista, RadiciSpandex® from Radici, Creora® from Hyosung and Dorlostan® from Bayer. Each of these manufacturers has developed its own line of products. Bermatex can advise its clients on the optimal use of each.

Spandex or elastane is never used alone. A new proces allows Bermatex to produce a spandex core air-covered with a nylon, polyester or polypropylene yarn.

Elastic spandex fibers are assembled with 40 to 300 den (44 to 330 dtex) textured yarn. The line of spandex yarns available from Bermatex ranges from 10 to 140 den(11 to 154 dtex)
