The flame-retardant of polyester can be described in two stages.
Firstly, when exposed to flame, polymer melts and pulls away from the source of heat, greatly retarding combustion.
Secondly, if combustion occurs, the phosphorous compound prevents drops of melted polymer from burning by modifying the composition of the gases released.
The luster of all these yarns is semi-dull or lustrous.
