       The luster of these fibers is semi-dull, dull or lustrous. These fibers of long-chain filaments have very particular optical characteristics.

With the addition of an optical brightener (a colorless compound that absorbs the ultraviolet radiation in light but emits radiation in the visible spectrum), for example, the fiber will take on an ultra-white appearance, as if it had been bleached.

Other optical polyesters absorb daylight and glow with a fluorescent brightness in the dark.
